Request for Expression of Interest

 

The MTN Nigeria Foundation Limited by Guarantee (MTNF) was established by MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, in July 2004 to drive MTN Nigeria’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in communities across the country.

 

Project Description and Location

The MTN Foundation Schools Connect project is designed to enable teachers and students in Nigerian public secondary schools gain confidence and understanding of how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can add value to their lives and enhance learning of relevant subjects. The project is currently located in 62 public secondary schools in 14 states and the FCT.

 

The SchoolsConnect project is now being restructured to focus on the teaching and learning of only three main subjects:

 

1.       ICT appreciation

 

2.       Mathematics, and

 

3.       English Language

 

The first set of beneficiaries of the Restructured SchoolsConnect Project will be students in SS1. Subsequently, in year 2 of the project, beneficiaries will include students in SS2, and by year 3, students from SS1-SS3 will benefit from the scheme. This will aid the effective measurement of the project’s impact by the end of year 3.

 

The Restructured SchoolsConnect project for the successful phase 1-4 schools (49 SchoolsConnect sites) will include the following:

 

1.    Replacement of all computers and servers in SchoolsConnect sites

2.   Architectural enhancements to learning facilities in SchoolsConnect sites

3.   Content enrichment at all sites (Provision of databases for specific subjects)

4.   Continual teacher training to empower nominated teachers in the use of restructured SchoolsConnect facilities

5.    Light renovation of buildings housing SchoolsConnect sites

6.   Motivational rewards to schools which meet set performance targets for students and teachers

 

Special Mandatory Requirements

To qualify for consideration as a beneficiary of this restructuring exercise, each interested State Ministry of Education is expected to do the following:

 

1.    Respond to this advertisement expressing interest in enlisting the existing SchoolsConnect sites in the state as beneficiaries

 

2.    Ensure that the public schools currently benefitting from the SchoolsConnect project have at least 1 qualified teacher each for ICT appreciation, Mathematics and English Language

 

3.    Attach a signed undertaking to:

a.    Maintain the Restructured SchoolsConnect project sites in the State and replace faulty equipment from time to time, after MTNF’s intervention

b.   Ensure availability of trained teachers in relevant subject areas in the beneficiary secondary schools at all times

 

4.   Endorse and submit the Heads of Terms

 

5.       Sign a 3-year (renewable) multi-party agreement to be executed by the Permanent Secretary/Commissioner (State Ministry of Education), beneficiary school’s management, the implementing partner and MTN Foundation.

 

MTN Foundation now invites State Ministries of Education with existing

SchoolsConnect sites to submit an expression of interest for their existing beneficiary secondary schools for consideration. The expression of interest must have the following:

 

  • The support and endorsement of the Permanent Secretary and the Honourable Commissioner for Education

 

  • Names and addresses of the current beneficiary secondary schools from the State

 

  • Full names and contact details of the Principal and another officer in each of the secondary schools with decision-making authority (telephone numbers, email addresses etc)

 

  • Photographs of the existing SchoolsConnect laboratory in the four secondary schools in the State

 

  • Proof that the secondary schools have the required number of ICT appreciation, Mathematics and English language teachers (letters of appointment, nominal roll showing staff names)

 

NEXT STEPS

On receipt of the expressions of interest from interested State Ministries of Education, MTNF will evaluate and shortlist qualifying public secondary schools for further consideration. Only qualifying secondary schools with evidence of the State Ministry of Education’s commitment and support will benefit from the restructured SchoolsConnect project.

Only pre-qualified applicants will be contacted and MTNF will be solely responsible for evaluation and selection of successful secondary schools.

Yobe State Government hereby invites interested, experienced and refutable Contractors Registered with Yobe State Works Registration Board (Yobe State Tenders Board) to bids for the Construction of Road from College of Education Gashua to Bridge, from Bridge to Garin-Alkali.

 

 

The Scope of Work

1.         The total length of the roads from College of Education to Bridge is 5.8km with 12.3m width which consist of 2.5m shoulder and 7.3m carriageway and the same from Bridge to Garin-Alkaii but a distance of 4,8km.

2.         The road will be covered with 40mm thick concrete on carriageway and

single coat surface dressing on the shoulders.

3.         Clearance of the site on either side of the road of all bushes, shrubs,

grasses and trees,

4.         Scarification of the existing surface, compacting and watering of the

existing ground level on either side of the road.

5.         Compacting of literate materials 100mm thick as base course.

6.         Construction of crossing culverts on designated locations as per design.

7.         Paving and compaction of 4Qrnm concrete asphalt on carriageway.

8.         Spraying of S12S bitumen and surface dressing using 12mm single size crushed aggregate on shoulders.

 

 

Interested Contractors are to collect their Tenders Bids Documents from the Directorate of Planning Research and Statistics, Ministry of Works upon payment of non-refundable fees of N250,000.00 only payable to ZENITH BANK DAMATURU, and present the Bank teller to the Secretary of State Tenders Board, Ministry of Finance, Damaturu and obtain the Receipt.
