Request for Expressions of Interest

 

The MTN Nigeria Foundation Limited by Guarantee (MTNF Ltd/Get) was established, by MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, in July 2004 to drive MTN Nigeria’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in communities across the country.

 

Project Description and Location

The MTNF recognizes the importance of empowering people living with disabilities and as such has implemented phases 1 and 2 of the MTNF Disability Support Project (MTNF DSP) in 2009 and 2010 respectively across 23 states and the FCT.

 

To ensure equal access to the project by Nigerians, MTNF plans to roll our the 3rd phase in the following states: Akwa-lbom, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Imo, Plateau, Osun, Nasarawa, Niger, Sokoto and Yobe. This will bring the total beneficiary states to 36

 

Project Objectives

The MTN Foundation seeks to support this segment of the society by providing them these appliances in order to improve their accessibility, functionality and enhance their Inclusion in the society.

 

The Mobility Aids and Appliances to be distributed include:

1.       Wheelchairs

2.       Tricycles

3.       Walking Sticks

4.       Armpit Crutches

5.       Elbow Crutches

6.       Guide Canes

7.       Braille Machines

8.       Braille Wristwatches

9.       Hearing Aids

 

In addition to the provision of these items and to insure project sustainability, MTN Foundation will also train project personnel on how to repair and maintain the appliances to be distributed.

 

MTN Foundation now invites submission of Expressions of interest from:

  • Special Homes;
  • Integrated Schools;
  • Institutions and;
  • Associations for physically challenged, visually and hearing impaired individuals from the states listed above.

Expressions of Interest should be done by the above listed type of organizations on behalf of individuals living with disabilities in their care.

 

Please note that following the application of the selection criteria, appropriate disability aids and appliance will be given directly to the end users only. Hearing aids will also be given to selected candidates who have been tested by the project audiologist based on quantities available.

 

Beneficiary Selection Process and Criteria:

  • Pre – Qualification Requirements

To qualify for consideration, applicants must

 

  • Be persons with disabilities

 

  • Reside in one of the states listed above

 

  • Be willing to participate in the Vulnerability index Analysis (set of criteria used to measure groups of people who are most likely to be endangered in the event of adverse circumstances of life);

 

  • Provide contact details for two persons (name, address, telephone number, e-mail if available) through whom the beneficiary can be reached;

 

  • Provide medical certificate or report from a Federal or State hospital confirming type of mobility aid/appliance needed.

 

  • Provide 2 passport size photographs required for identification card.

 

Next step

Recipients of the mobility aids and appliances will be notified directly via text messages in due course.

 

Application process:

Interested special Homes, integrated Schools, Federal and State Teaching Hospitals; State General Hospitals and Associations for disabled persons from the states listed above should collect application forms from Contact Project Field Officers through the Social Welfare Offices of the Ministries of Women Affairs in the 13 States/Local Government Areas.

Please attach 2 passport photographs of the prospective beneficiary to the completed application form,

Completed application forms should be forwarded to the Project Field Officers located at the State Welfare Offices of the Ministries of Women Affairs to the mentioned states. All applications must be received on or before 9th June, 2011.
