UN WOMEN
United Nations Entity for Gender Equity and the Empowerment of Women
Invitation for Expression of Interest
Launch of a New Partnership with Civil Society Organization (CSO) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Partners in Nigeria Feb 2011.
In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The new entity became operational on 1st January 2011.
UN Women merges UNIFEM and three other previously distinct parts of the UN system: Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW); International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW); and Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OS AGI). UNIFEM has become and should be addressed henceforth as UN Women.
UN Women will support individual countries in moving towards gender equality in economics and politics, and ending the worldwide phenomenon of violence against women. It will assist in setting international standards for progress, and lead coordinated UN efforts to make new opportunities for women and girls central to all UN programmes for development and peace.
In view of the foregoing organizational changes, it is important to re-establish existing partnerships and develop fresh ones, towards the attainment to UN Women mandate in Nigeria. Consequently, UN Women in Nigeria kindly invites registered Civil Society Organizations (CSO) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) to present an Expression of Interest (EOl) for pre-qualification and possible inclusion as UN Women partners. UN Women seeks to partner with organizations that have a 5-year track record of competence in maximum of two of the five thematic areas of intervention: I) Expanding Women’s Voice, Leadership and Participation, 2) Ending violence against women, 3) Strengthening implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda, 4) Enhancing Women’s Economic Empowerment, 5) Making Gender Equality priorities central to National, Local and Sectoral Planning, Budgeting and Statistics.
